Mystery of History

Curriculum Review

Mystery of History

Author: Linda Lacour Hobar

This book surprised me. When we started homeschooling, I was looking forward to integrating world history with Biblical history. I picked Mystery of History because they boast that their curriculum can be used with all ages. When I first started looking through the book, I was sure it would be way above my younger kids’ level. At the very least, I worried they would all get bored. I could not have been more wrong. They absolutely loved this book and learned so much. Our history timeline was on the walls of the dining room and they loved having my husband quiz them during dinner time.

What I loved:

  • Engaging content for all ages

  • Bible events and world history events are interlaced so that you see how the Bible fits into world events.

  • Lots of worksheets and activity ideas included in the Companion Guide.

What you should know:

  • There are additional resources that complement the curriculum on their website. Many of these may be worth the additional cost.

  • Tests and quizzes are challenging. I did not give them to my younger kids.

  • The Companion Guide includes ideas for 3 different age groups but you may have to do a bit of extra work.

  • All World History in four volumes. No American History courses (other than what is included in the World History books.
